Aquino-Cojuangco: “Facts They Don’t Want You to Know”

A viral animated video by Filipino artist Baron Buchokoy is already making its way around the Internet. The 15-minute piece gives a brief overview of the Aquino-Cojuangco’s family tree and their rise and stay in power.

The video comes in 4 parts:
I : Cojuangco Wealth - how the Cojuangcos aquired their fortune
II: Hacienda Luisita - the aquiring and conditions behind the land
III: Killing Spree - the killings related to the Hacienda
IV: Aquino-Cojuangco Forever - how local media portrays the family

According to Baron Buchokoy, the video was not meant to be anti Aquino-Cojuangco and that its only aim is to show the other side of the political clan that is often muted in local media. He says the video’s purpose is to educate the dumbed-down, ordinary Filipino citizen.

Disclaimer: Though several sources have been cited within the video, viewers are still recommended to check all the facts first.

I personally find it very informative but I agree that these “facts” still have to be verified. The video says that it’s not an anti Aquino-Cojuanco propaganda but the latter part of the video shows otherwise. I don’t believe that Ninoy Aquino fought so hard during the martial law period and even before that only for his political ambitions. Yes he was ambitious, it was quite obvious, he was charming and witty and he wanted to be in politics but I don’t think any man would endure what he did if it weren’t for a cause. What man would put his family through such an ordeal only for a shot at presidency?

The video also DEMONIZES the Aquino-Cojuanco family. I’m not the biggest fan of Kris Aquino, I don’t see Cory as a saint and I want to see more from PNoy but I feel like this video is a propaganda of some sort.

If indeed accounts of this video are true, I do hope PNoy does what is right and give back to the farmers their lands and own up to what his ancestors have done. That’s one step to “daang matuwid”.

And yes, I agree. Enough of Kris Aquino. She’s everywhere!

The death of the soldiers in Al Barka, Basilan is just the recent manifestation of the war in Mindanao. Make no mistake about it, atrocities have been committed on both sides. For every soldier killed, a corresponding number, if not more, rebels and civilians have been killed, but our media do not report most of these. For every grieving family of soldiers, there are also grieving families of rebels and non-combatants who suffer the same fate. This is the reality of war, and it is a reality that must be avoided.

“I’m just fed up with some media, especially commentators from big networks, stoking the embers of hatred and violence by blindly calling for cancellation of the peace talks and calling for all out war. Did they not know that it was precisely the all-out war of then Pres. Estrada in Maguindanao and Lanao that scattered the MILF to far-flung areas like the Zambo peninsula and Basilan, and further strengthened the resolve of the MILF to carry on with their struggle? Like the fable between the wind and the sun, the stronger the wind blew the more the man clung to his jacket. But when the sun finally cast its gentle warmth, the man willingly took off his jacket.”

SHARK’S FIN BILL (no shit)

Good news to all shark lovers out there! Anna Oposa, my inspiration, whom I have written about in my blog many times before has once again AWED me. Her recent accomplishment is House Bill 5412 (Shark’s Fin Bill). Which is sponsored by Representative Fatima Aliah Q. Dimaporo.

This Bill aims to ensure the protection of SHARKS and RAY SPECIES here in the Philippines!

I am really glad that there are people like Anna Oposa and her friends who fight for mother nature.

We Filipinos have been so blessed to live in a beautiful, MAGICAL country rich in culture and abundant in natural resources. Africa has a reason to be poor, they’re geographically disadvantaged with all the drought and food shortage they experience. We, on the other hand HAVE NO EXCUSE. We have a smorgasbord of endemic species of flora and fauna, sadly, we allowed foreign and local plunderers to rape our land.

We are one of the richest countries in the world, I just hope we realize this soon before all we have is gone.

Support the Shark’s Fin Bill and tell your congressman to pass it :)

i want a baby!

For the past month I’ve been telling Paul that I want to have a baby.HAHAHA We both love kids and kids love us! But we’re obviously not ready to be parents yet.

Tonight, Paul asked me about the possibility of not being able to have children, of not being able to conceive. He asked me if I would leave him if I found out that he was baog (sterile, infertile). I said that I wouldn’t and that we could always adopt. Paul said that if we were to adopt we should adopt children from indigenous tribes. I was so thrilled to hear him say that.

I said that we were going to adopt an Aeta boy: Aeta boy (source)

We will name our future adopted son Moses (I haven’t told him this yet but I’ve been thinking of names!haha). He will become a lawyer and the first Aeta president of the Philippines. He will be proud of his tribe and prioritize all indigenous peoples in the country, he will reclaim their lands and preserve their culture.

And then we might adopt an Igorot boy: Igorot boy (source).

He will be a “doctor to the barrios”. We will send him to UP and other schools abroad for his medical degree. He will help poor people and give them free medical services. Dr. David C. Beltran at your service!

Paul wants to raise an athlete too so we might adopt a Badjao boy, Badjao boy (source) he will be an Olympic swimming champion. He will train young Bagobo boys and girls to be athletes as well, he might even become the head of the Philippine Sports Commission. Chairman Simon C. Beltran sounds nice.

I want to have daughters too so maybe we can adopt two girls. A BagoboBagobo girl (upper right, source) and a T’boli (lower left, source)  T'boli girl and who knows? One of them might become the next Ms. Universe.

How does Luna and Stella sound like? I think they’re beautiful names. Both the sun and stars light up the ebony sky, and these daughters? They will be the princesses who will light up our home.

I am fully convinced that my people are the most beautiful people in the world,we make beautiful children too. And these children deserve a bright future.

Someday, when I become a mother, I will make sure that each of my future children will be properly cared for and nurtured. That all their needs will be met, that their dreams, however big they are will always seem to be within their reach. This is one of the reasons why I believe in the RH Bill. I believe that through proper spacing of children, parents will be able to prepare for their children’s future. I believe that through age-appropriate sex education, these children will be able to understand their bodies and grow to appreciate and love them. I believe through proper health care, women will be able to take care of their bodies and become better mothers, men, on the other hand, with the aid of family planning, will be able to provide for their families.

Someday, when Paul and I finally get married and decide to have a family of our own, we will make sure that we can provide for our children, that we can send them to school and more importantly, that we can dedicate our time and efforts to raise them to become well-rounded and productive individuals. Whether my future kids will be conceived or adopted, I will space my children :)

Can you feel my overflowing maternal love?haha
